Treasure ended up ditching the clerk’s stolen car and hot-wired a car from a used car dealership. She’d become an expert at removing the tracking devices from new cars, but she just hated the fact that it took up a lot of her time. However, that used car dealership didn’t even have tracking devices installed on their cars.

She’d stolen a plain white Mercury Tracer from the lot and drove to the nearest truck driver rest stop. Instead of parking with the rest of the cars, she drove the car until she was positioned behind the 18-wheeler trailers. It was there that she was able to catch up on sleep for a few hours.

A knock on her window woke her up.

“Hey gal! That snitch in the truck in front of me just went and called the damned police on yer’ ass! Said you fit the description of the gal who has been on the run and he’s out to collect his damn reward!”

Treasure jumped up and opened the door. “Excuse me?”

“I’m just trying to help yer’ ass! You don’t have to have an attitude with me!” The truck driver said as he walked back to his truck.

Treasure was confused. She looked around and saw a white man pointing towards her car and panicked. She grabbed her bag of money and her gun, then discreetly slid over and opened the passenger side door. In the clearing was nothing but trees as far as she could see, but she knew that the police dogs would track her down easily. They had more energy than she had. She stepped out of the car and crouched down.

There were two big trucks on her left and two big trucks on her right. The guy who’d knocked on her window had gotten into the 3rd truck and started the engine. She didn’t have time to figure out if he was trying to set her up or not. She just needed desperately to trust somebody in the world, and she was hoping that it could be him, even if for a little while.

She ran and jumped on the step-ladder just as he was about to pull off. She tapped on the window just as he had earlier, and when he saw her he hurriedly reached over to open the door for her. She maneuvered her way into the cab of the truck and dropped the bag of money on the floor.

“Please, I don’t care how much you charge and I don’t care where you’re going! Just get me the fuck away from here!” Treasure screamed, exhausted.

The truck driver placed his hat on and shunned her. “I’ll help you. I won’t charge you anything. I’m headed to Florida though. You alright with that?”

Florida? Damnit! “Alright I’m fine with Florida. Let’s go! I’ll go anywhere if I can get the fuck away from this damned place!”

As soon as Mazzy made it to the front door, Salisha started blasting. She didn’t have time to talk or conversate, she just fired away.
